Spray foam involves a chemical reaction during application, and that raises fair questions. Here is a straightforward look at what happens during install, during cure, and afterward.
Spray foam is created by combining two liquid components that react and expand on contact. During that reaction, the foam does release vapors, which is why our technicians wear supplied-air respirators and full protective equipment while spraying, and why occupied areas are ventilated and, where needed, vacated during application.
Most off-gassing happens during the active spraying and the first several hours afterward, tapering off during the curing period that follows. We give every customer a clear, specific re-entry timeline for their project based on the foam type, area sprayed, and ventilation conditions, follow that guidance rather than a generic online estimate.
Once spray foam has fully cured, it becomes a chemically stable, inert solid material. It does not continue to off-gas under normal conditions, which is why spray foam is widely used in occupied homes, schools, and commercial buildings once installation is complete.
Beyond respiratory protection for our crew, we ventilate work areas during and after application, use appropriate containment to limit overspray, and communicate clear re-entry timing before we leave the site.
